Creation in Brittany of SAIB (Société d’Applications Industrielles de Brest). The company started off as a design office for ship equipment, specialising in the design of hermetic feedthroughs.
During World War II, the company moved to Saint-Etienne, Loire.
In the 1950s, SAIB refocused on the production of metallic watertight electrical connectors for the military market, and more particularly the connection of communication and power cables.
From 1932 to the 1950sIn order to bolster its offer, SAIB developed different ranges of polycarbonate connectors. For this purpose, the company integrated an expertise in plastic injection and mould making.
These new products enabled SAIB to access the railway infrastructure market, thanks to a close cooperation with SNCF (the French National Railway Company). Fitted with hermaphroditic contacts (patented by SAIB), these connectors soon demonstrated their high resistance to harsh environments, which still represents nowadays a significant competitive edge.
1960 – 1970Benefitting from its experience, SAIB extended its offer of connectors for railway signalling applications by designing connectors for different types of traffic detectors and switching motors.
The 1980sThanks to the reliability of its connectors for railway signalling systems, SAIB stood out from the competitors by developing new innovative and competitive products.
Creation of 2 ranges of connectors dedicated to the ALSTOM Eurobalise system, which is one major component of the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System):
In March 2005, SAIB became S.A.I.B. Connectique further to a change of ownership. This takeover was to pave the way into a new expansion phase for the company.
With its extensive experience and responsiveness, S.A.I.B. Connectique became a high-flyer in Nuclear Instrumentation, by becoming the first connector manufacturer qualified by EDF (the French electricity board) for the European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) with its NU25 range.
Its renowned know-how in the Rail Industry also allowed the firm to win a new business with ALSTOM, for the design and production of control connectors, for tramways ground-level power-supply systems.
Year 2005
To stay in tune with this expansion phase, S.A.I.B. Connectique built and moved into new larger premises in La Talaudière (Saint-Etienne suburb).
2011The year marked a new step of diversification for the company, with a comeback into the Military sector, where it all began. Taking-over the design and production of both push-pull and bayonet lock audio connectors for military tactical communication networks, S.A.I.B. Connectique became a strategic supplier of Thales Group.
2014S.A.I.B. Connectique joins the Rail Industries Group, along with the companies SNIC and SNIC Rail, in order to create commercial and industrial synergies and thus pursue its development. This growth is illustrated by an enlargement of its premises, resulting from an expansion of its workforce.
